Facilitation trainings are designed both for professionals and those new to dialogue facilitation, to sharpen key facilitation skills to promote constructive, respectful, and deep engagement in the online and offline context.

Introduction to Online Dialogue Facilitation

  • Upon successful completion of the training participants will:

    • Understand the foundational functions of dialogue and facilitation, as well as online engagement

    • Through individualized feedback have built a self-awareness of their own facilitation profile

    • Feel confident in their knowledge and application of the foundational facilitation toolbox

  • The course is an asynchronous 5-week online course.

    You can review the weekly course materials at your own pace, there are no set times when you have to attend the course. But you are expected to meet the weekly assignment deadlines.

    In addition, there are 2 optional live sessions.

    The course is held on the Brightspace platform. All you need to participate is a computer or phone with video recording possibility and stable internet access.

  • The overall time commitment for the course is 12-14 hours, approximately 2-3 hours per week.

    The course is asynchronous so you can review the course materials at your own pace, but you are expected to meet the weekly assignment deadlines.

    In addition, there are 2 optional live sessions.

    There are no set times when you have to attend the course.

Advanced Facilitation Training

  • Upon successful completion of the training participants will:

    • Understand the power, potential, challenges and limitations of facilitation

    • Through extensive individualized feedback have built a strong self-awareness of their own perspectives and facilitation style

    • Feel confident in their knowledge and application of key facilitation tools including active listening, dealing with difficult dynamics and generating effective group collaboration

  • The 10-week training includes weekly live training sessions and asynchronous learning materials.

    The live sessions take place on Zoom. The asynchronous training materials and engagement take place on the Brightspace platform.

  • Each training week, you will have a 2-hour live training session.

    In addition, going over the weekly asynchronous materials will take up to 2 hours per week.

FAQ

  • There are no required live training sessions in the Introduction to Online Dialogue Facilitation course. There are two optional live sessions offered in weeks 3 and 4 of the course.

    In the Advanced training, you have 2-hour weekly live training sessions. They take place at the same time every week in small groups.

    You are placed in a group based on your availability, which we will collect in the registration phase.

  • You will receive certificates after completing both the Introduction to Online Dialogue Facilitation course and the Advanced training.

    After the Advanced training, you can continue with the training practicum with Soliya to receive the UN-Habitat-endorsed facilitator certificate.

    Certificate re-issue: If you need your training certificate re-issued, please get in touch with training@soliya.net. There is a re-issue fee of 5 USD.

    Please note that we are unlikely to be able to re-issue certificates that have been awarded before the year 2000.

  • After completing the Introduction to Online Dialogue Facilitation course, you will receive a course certificate. You are also eligible to join the Advanced training without further application steps.

    After the completion of the Advanced training, you will receive a training certificate. You are also able to continue to the training practicum with Soliya to receive the UN-Habitat-endorsed facilitator certificate.

    After the practicum, you are also part of a global facilitator network, eligible to facilitate in various virtual exchange programs and take on further roles within those programs.

  • To join the Introduction to Online Dialogue Facilitation course, no prior knowledge or experience in facilitation is required.

    To join the Advanced training, some prior knowledge and experience in facilitation or mediation of a similar dialogue model is required.

    You can gain this experience by successfully completing the Introduction to Online Dialogue Facilitation course. If you apply to Advanced training directly, please ensure your CV and/or cover letter explains this prior experience.

  • For every training cycle, we have a limited number of scholarships available. The awarded scholarship covers the full training fee.

    These scholarships are primarily intended for:

    1. Soliya Connect Program alumni within 3 years of taking the program

    2. Motivated young people from low-income countries who commit to completing both the training and the practicum (co-facilitating a semester in Soliya’s Virtual Exchange Dialogue programs)

    You can apply for a scholarship via the training application. In the application, you are expected to submit either a short letter or a video explaining why you would qualify for a scholarship.
