Soliya’s facilitation model promotes communication that allows engagement with difference.

It enables authentic communication that goes beyond the surface and grows from disagreement and conflicts.

In Soliya’s facilitation model, these three pillars of facilitation empower facilitators to foster meaningful engagement. At the core of this approach are neutrality and multipartiality, which guide facilitators in leading discussions effectively and ensuring balanced, high-quality dialogue that encourages participation from all perspectives.

Neutrality

Facilitator neutrality means that they don’t act as participants or contribute to the content of the dialogue by expressing their own views or emotions. Neutral facilitators don’t side with or support any one viewpoint.

Multipartiality

Multipartial facilitators support and provide space to all views in the dialogue through active facilitation. Multipartial facilitators can also include views not present in the discussion to enable engaging with difference.

  • By not sharing your opinion, or not siding with a perspective, facilitators help others in the group express their views and thoughts and ensure there is space for all types of views to be expressed.

  • This ensures that there are no harmful power dynamics between the facilitator and the group.

  • As a multipartial facilitator, you help the group to understand that there are multiple ways to view the issue and that those multiple views are important in dialogue.

  • The very fact that the facilitator is neutral, allows them to be multipartial. They make space for every participant, including those who struggle to get their views across.

  • Neutrality and multipartiality are learnt responses. It is essential to be self-aware and continuously practice to ensure you remain neutral in all situations.
